Whoa, Whoa, Whoa! Pump the brakes! I know that we have some “fly” brothers out there and even some that can be called “divos”, but for the rest of you who are running around clueless, I want to show a little love.
You might be surprised at how many guys I’ve encountered who were either majorly lacking in the style department or just didn’t care. Neither of these characteristics is positive or admirable. Style is important in many ways, from the first impression on a professional level to the probability of attracting a love interest.
Let’s have a short discussion over a style that I have coined “preppy-urban”. You can find this type of look on familiars, such as Jay-Z, Lebron James, Tyrese, Jamie Foxx and others. This is for my man who likes to keep that urban, masculine vibe, but step it up a notch, while out with his diva girlfriend (or while trying to obtain one).
There are a few rules for achievement. First, let’s talk about the jeans, because your jeans will be the staple of your ensemble. Do NOT attempt to wear the jeans that you’ve been working in, working out in or just worn the knees out of. Start with a good quality dark-wash denim. The brand is up to you, but for some ideas, check out www.denimsandjeans.com.

Also, check out your local stores, such as Levi’s and Buckle, Inc., both known for their quality and affordability. Second, save the faded out, stained and ripped t-shirt for painting the house. Now that you’re wearing great jeans, you can top it with a casual polo, a button-down with the sleeves rolled up or a simple graphic tee. As you will notice from the sample pictures, guys also wear cardigans and vests, so another way to “prep it up” a little more, would be to throw one on. Finally, no “busted kicks”. Yes, tennis shoes are still
acceptable. Throw on a nice pair of chucks (converse) or some Steve Madden’s
(whatever your favorite brand), and just make sure they are clean and without holes. Accessorizing? Yes, men do that too, but we’ll talk about that one another day…
Remember, I’m here to help, not to “define” your style, so keep your personality prevalent. Of course, if you still find it difficult to “get it together”, then that’s what I’m also here for.
