human beings have long co-existed in a societies governed, and sustained, by guns and butter--analogical tangible items representing the tools by which one survives, and the spoils of successful mastery of a skill, or skill set. some peoples' guns are bigger than others', and some peoples' butter is more flavorful. regardless of the quality of an individual's guns or butter, each  of us needs them both, in some way, to exist, and enjoy life, in whatever capacity afforded to us. even independent artists make use of, and require, guns and butter--the creative works being the guns, and the compensation and recognition being the butter.

Ok...here's what I think needs to be broken down so it can once and forever be broken.  And I'm gonna try to dumb it down as much as I can for the perpetually confused.

Entertainers (no matter what branch) have their public selves and private selves.  What you see on stage is not "the person".  What you see in the videos is not their lives...stay with me, I know some of you are smart enough to know this but we got a few stragglers.  If Jay Z were Jay Z all the time and not Sean Carter...he'd lose his mind.  If Mos Def were Mos Def ALL the time and not the person behind his government name, he'd lose his mind.  If Beyonce, 50 Cent, Tina Turner, Bird Man or whomever else you want to name walked around as the performer...the public self...all the time just to make illiterate people comfortable and happy...they'd probably lose there minds too.

Charles’ Story

“Army SFC Charles Armstead was on his third deployment when he suffered serious injuries including a hemipelvectomy; the loss of his right leg up to his pelvis, one of the rarest of lower extremity amputations. While at his outpost in Hamman Al Alil, Iraq on May 2, 2009, SFC Armstead did not know that an Iraqi insurgent had already killed two soldiers while infiltrating the outpost and had severely wounded the gate guard when he went to investigate a noise coming from the gate area. As SFC Armstead came upon the scene he was shot in the stomach leaving him with internal injuries and shattering his right hip, while also causing extensive nerve and spinal damage…” (Excerpt from www.homesfromourtroops.org)

Today, homosexuality is on the rise in the African American community. It’s now ok to be “Gay” more now than it was 10 years ago. When I was growing up you may have suspected someone of being gay but it was almost taboo to speak about it especially in the black church. The issue for me isn’t gay men, and the only reason for this blog is the “DL Brothas” (Down Low) who are leading heterosexual lives in front their family, friends and coworkers but having homosexual romances in other words “living a double life” with other men.

The first time we heard talented neo-soul artist Neyo sing his top charted single "Ms Independent" We loved it. Then it was the sexy and soulful Jamie Foxx and Neyo with the song "She Got Her Own" and we ate right into their hands. Singing and bobbing our head to these songs. But I ask the question..."What Are the Reasons Men Want an Independent Woman?"
