LMAO...... hmmmm Ive wanted to write about this topic for years... and for the most part I have always been in between on opinions that apply to this rhetorical question & this is why. A person's preference of style doesnt mean "JACK!"
First off Im sure we can all relate to that parent or other relative that would jump on our backs before going to school !!! Yes gentleman, the grannie or mom that would tell you to tuck in your shirt or grab a belt.. or pull up those pants... Or ladies what about before going to that special first school dance or preparing for church. Cant you hear your mother squealing in over your shoulder.... sweety make sure there are no wrinkles in your blouse... that skirt is too short; or those heels are too high! Take of all that glamour shadow and lip stick... you are much to young for that!
Now I realize that these generalizations dont apply to every female and male and from what I have observed through out my 28 years of life is that style and fashion are best to be taken in to moderation with accessories, clothing pieces, & yes even grooming. Dresscodes are in place to uphold a particular image of society operating within different subcultures. Even places of employment operate with in these social institutions. It is almost essential and natural.

Now when it comes to financial status.... there is abit of deception involved. (Lol) I just had a funny thought on a former business memory! While it is required for Lawyers for example to be well groomed and in dress with suits and ties it doesnt necessarily classify them as decent people. It just informs you directly if you are operating in their environment that they obviously play an important part in their work.. as well as others. Yet to this day to any one whom has actually met a real millionaire... Do you always see them in dockers/hushpuppies/ Ralph Lauren Polos? I dont know how many young working class people I have seen dress like this to outtings, college, or clubs and literally dont have anything to show for themselves except college loans and/ a full time job. I have known people through my life whom live on less then $15,000 a year and yet when they have to make an appearance to a formal occasion either design their own formal garment or manage to save a lil something on the side months in advance to purchase the gown or suit of choice with accompanied accessories! Now that type of stuff 've seen people wear at job interviews as a fellow potential job interview at times scares the crap outta me... Personally I think proper professionalism when dressing for an interview should apply as common sense after the age of 18. I think it should apply to a person rather when its a fast food job or a corperate latter job.
What about people whom have a good sense of style that dont shop at department stores or local malls? What about the discount retailers, and yes even thrift store retailors... Do you know how many different brands of clothing from the past 10 years gets recycled when it doesnt meet marketing quotas every year... and yet they will still make a profit with mark downs!!! The numbers are astronomical, and yet "I" as a consumer have the power to purchase something thats almost 3-5 years old; take it home; hang it in my closet; and wait to "choose" to wear it when I feel it is the best time to do so!
How easy is it to say: " Oh that person must be rich because they go shopping every week or every 2 weeks!" Or atleasts thats how people slander down in South Texas!..... Yet how often do we see people on TV that are literally up to their eyeballs in debt with closets full of clothing and accessories that they have never worn and never will and yet havent a penny to their name? I've knownp eople like this...its scary.. sometimes they turn into credit card fashion victims. I had a friend once who had a closet full of gorgeous designer shows that she never wore because she did not know how to wear or walk in them. Aside to that she had a bad knee and ankle from getting ran over about 5 years ago and still swore to her self that some day she would use them. She had credit cards and a loving husband whom helped pay for one of those cards. She owned shelves of beauty products stored away under her bathroom sinks which left remnants of a trail of her struggle with outside beauty. Her excuse: None of them worked... Yet when it became show time she created this fake fasod of greatness and grandeur. Well thats show business! Nothing is what it seems...
When you report to work nicely groomed and dressed accordingly how about make a statement in a minor way! Ive noticed in Texas that French tips/ coach purses/ wedge sandles/ flattering rayon knee lenghth skirts/ and lip gloss are really popular! And you now what it does work! As for men... definately leave your sports gear at home for that interview... your hoodie will be fine with out you for an hour or less! Make sure you continue to spice yourself up with that Axe spray... its cheap but it works! Also I can not state enough how amazing a man looks with a fresh haircut!!!! No matter the occasion ... a man always looks oustanding when hes clean shaven and freshly cropped!
In all honesty I think some of my fashion colleagues would be shocked if they ever came to my studio/bedroom and saw my wardrobe. I think they would be shocked if they saw my accessories drawer and my shoe collection... In all honesty its very minimal. In some cases I wish I could afford to get my hair redesigned with extensions every 2 weeks but being a truly committed single mother doesnt allow me those kinds of luxuries! I do how ever try to stick too the basics.. and if you flip through my FB photo albums you will clearly see that I have managed to improvise with what I have already been born and blessed with! On the social level I am just a forgotten princess with a lost family fortune whom is moving on in the world seeking her place of happiness. Thanks every one for reading and I look forward to hearing from you!
