This month reviewer, Andrew Scott, takes you on a musical journey. From his own person collection, you will be introduced to the epic recording by Trans-Siberian Orchestra called “Beethoven’s Last Night”. This collection was originally released in 2000 and then again with features that were not in the original release, in 2012.
The epic tour de force is a double CD collection of classical music is based on the theme of Beethoven’s Last Night on earth. It combines elements of rock, classical and opera within each composition. What makes this unique is that there is narration throughout giving you the element of being and listening to a play. This narration is given perfectly by the voice of Bryan Hicks.
The twists given to the compositions that we are familiar with are breathtaking such as Beethoven’s “Overture”, A Last Illusion” and “Requiem (The Fifth). Each of these famous pieces are complimented with additional pieces of music that perfectly compliment the original.
Within each composition, the characters built here are given life as they are highlighted all the way through with recording. As a listener you feel the drama that each person is going through especially in “Fate”, Mephistopheles”, “The Dreams of Candlelight” and “Who Is This Child”.
One of the truest gifts of this collection is the packaging that it comes in. The time was taken to fully explain the play with gorgeous artwork accompanying this. A special note has to be made about this long lost art form.
Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s “Beethoven’s Last Night” is a must have for any fan of this music and for those who are unfamiliar with this type of rock opera this is an excellent beginner collection.
