Something on my mind... wont somebody please tell me whats RIGHT!
Recently ( since October) I have discovered this renewed interest in hosiery of different prints. I mean from colored fish nets to striped thigh highs... 14 years ago I would of thought nothing of it simply trying to imitate the Babysitters club or Clueless! Awh or even need I say Romy and Michelles highschool Reunion with thier flirty little minis and killer platform sandals perplexed in their boring dead end jobs. Does being young and beautiful in America really pay off. If so can we really afford to be bias of females whom are comfortable with their sexuality and yet just love to exploit their legs?
I mean to be honest... No lies here- I go out clubbing alot! And I as a designer I always notice what people are wearing. Ive noticed how the cliche of wearing short tshirt like dresses or mini skirts aside from leggings are the norm. Yet even the females that are 5 ft tall attempt to rock the stilettos for lengthier legs. Stilletos have become a staple for the American Night life along side with wedges and platforms. They have certainly always been a staple mark for sex appeal... I mean we all know whether female or male how sexy a woman can appear wearing denim straight leg jeans with a pear of 4-6 inch stiletto platforms. Celebrities dress like this on the daily with their gosh designer bags and so on.
The point that Im trying to reach is that still to this day, even in 2012 majority of society no matter what gender or ethnicity still assume nasty judgement calls on women whom may just prefer to show alittle skin or whom may enjoy decorating their feet with designer shoes. Ive heard such comments not necessarily directed at me but to others like: whore shoes, slut slingers, bitch stompers, harlot steppers.... etc. etc. Fashion clearly has always ventured into the wild zone of no boundaries depending on lifestyle. As for me I have found hosiery and stilletos to play a major part in a variety of diffferent looks when I go out to have fun. Depending on the theme for a fashion show I can almost always pull off any type of heel... the fish nets or thigh high look or over the knee tights Ive had to be care full with. Personally, I dont mind men or women eyeballing my legs as long as they dont pass on the evil eye.
Long before my fashion designing and modeling days my legs had become a well recognized asset that was noticed through junior college, jr. high, and highschool. Not fully understanding until 16 years old the power of physical attraction between a female and male :I did take it for granted that doing the clueless look was some what exploiting my assets. Actually I just wanted to challenge the highschool chearleaders and drill team because they always got away with breaking dress code in their skimpy booty shorts and miniskirts. Yet me being a obscenely tall band geek made it challening to find things finger tip length. I had to learn to play up an appearance. Knee highs were good for this with a thigh length skirt. The moment I started to wear thigh highs.. I knew I was pushing the envelope because even if that denim jumper or skirt was finger tip length from afar away - I knew that it was not how it would look up close... I played the monet scam all the time. I can even remember wearing ankle length skirts tha had slights to high up the thigh. Keep in mind I was even sitting cross-legged lik a lady! Some question: " Well if she was such a distraction where were here parents in all this?" My father at the time had been seperated from my mother by her choise 25 states away. Mom was going to college and working two jobs. I made my own decisions on just about everything and I was heavily influenced by movies and cable tv. I wasnt too influenced by friends because if that were the case I would of turned out to be a little skanky whore... I managed to have just two steady monogomous relationships from the age of 16 to 18 luckily graduating at 17 years old. The click of girls that I hung out with went through boys like their daddy's bank accounts. Then the partys they through that I managed never to attend were always echoing wild rumors by the time mondays came. Honestly I was too busy throwing my own house parties... and my parties had the gamers, pot heads, and wild chicano thug rappers. Awh to this day old friends still talk about our wild memories... Im the only one that hasnt changed. Even with 1 and 1/2 husbands behind me aiming at 30 years!
Back in the day some of my key wardrobe pieces were:
1. white and black over the knee highs
2. red leather mini skirt
3. beaded hankerchief halter tops
4. pointy strappy anle stillettos like the ones Mariah Carey used for the honey video
5. A torso fitted zipper leather jacket
6 over the knee leather wedge platform spice girl boots
7. Low rise skater girl wide leg pants
8. platform mary janes
9. hip hugging disco print flare bell bottoms
10. polyester baby t-shirts
11. pleated skirt jumpers
12. key hole blouses even though I had nothing to show at an A-cup.
Up to this current period in time I would probably still wear numbers: 1,2,3,5,6,11,12. Flirty has always been my QUE! On a professional note though I would and have totally yielded to New York & co. Love their flair business slacks with their almost sheer button down blouses. Can never go wrong with their suits!
