Why do so many men decide to be intimate with more than one woman? Even more disturbing, there are men that consider more than one woman their significant other (girlfriend/wife). This is an activity that has been practiced in our history for centuries. There are many reasons a man makes this choice. However, I recently asked a group of people on Facebook, their thoughts on this topic. The number one reason, according to this small group was: men who cheat believe it exudes “Power”.  Not just in his “own mind”, but also with females and other males. Now consider the animal kingdom. According to the show “Animal Planet”, within a certain radius of a lions surroundings, there will only be “one” that is allowed to impregnate many of the female lionesses. The Lion that has this privilege is the one that is stronger and faster. This specimen will kill other male lions as if they are prey in order to protect his domain.

Although the practice of adultery and infidelity is frowned upon by our cultures, the act itself does not become difficult for our men. What I believe makes it easier for them, are us (women). We may complain and argue, but we continue to involve ourselves with this ritual. We belittle ourselves in being girlfriends of men who are married, or even being the wife who believes you’re his number one element in comparison to his other women. It is a fact that women outnumber men two to one in this Country; we’re quickly growing three to one, with homosexuality and over populated prisons on the rise. I also want to examine the same scenario for women indulging in this practice. Although not always talked about, there are women that outwardly agree with men that practice this lifestyle; however for them having more than one lover, it becomes an entirely new “ball game”.  Our society’s double standard immediately condemns a woman, and she is labeled a slut or whore. Women have humongous powers of persuasion in our society; we are now senators, mayors, executives and even have ballots running for President. We have been known to influence the men that hold these offices, because we are their wives or sexual partners. In essence, we don’t come up short with intellect, money or manipulation, only with bodily vigor. I understand there are additional underlying factors that contribute to why women are not readily accepted to have many lovers, which goes back to even the day of our Lord and Savior. This is only lightly touching the subject matter. We will continually be at odds concerning infidelity; it doesn't matter if we openly admit we agree to it, practice it ourselves or even say we disagree. Because we continue to accept the men that partake generation after generation. 

 “IF” we’re accepting our men to have relationships outside of their so called “main” relationship, then why is polygamy and polygyny frowned upon so hastily? Is it because these forms of what we consider licentious acts, are associated with religion or cults? Let’s not sugar coat this; consequently women have exacerbated problems in relationships for years, starting with Eve. Now how do we fix this?
